Sekolahku...Part 1

What I am today is the result of my educations. I'm nobody without it..I'm useless without it. Pretty sure that I'll become a burden to the society.

A quote from Aristotle: The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet. (brainyquote.com)

I was brought up by my parents who were both educators. They met at a school name SMK Tun Syed Syeikh Barakbah, Sungai Bakap in 1980(I guess). My mom's house was only a stone throw from the school. My dad however travel approximately 40km every day (from Bagan Ajam, Butterworth) to work. Both were very committed to their job and to the education world itself. They married in June 1982 and settled down in a town called Nibong Tebal or NT(which always be reffered by the name Ninja Turtle by me and my fellow friends during my adolescent period)

My informal education seems like very formal to me. Every right or wrong, the do's and don'ts and roman and arabic letters, the syllable of every letters combination, drawing, music, speeches, toilet skills, discipline and other subjects were given without a cent. Plus, they provide me and my siblings with shelter, food, protection against negative influences, environment and against our devil side of nature. I can't remember clearly when did I started to read. My early memories were not as good as my friend (here). He can remember things since he was 2 or 3 years old but I only can recall some starting from the age of 4. I remember learning to read in Malay language. Learning Muqaddam was hard but I manage to get through. Special thanks to my father's rotan. It helps...really!!!

My early childhood education was in Taski Al-Arqam Taman Berjaya. Learned to recite the doa and the learned fighting there also. To be frank with you guys, I was a sissy at that time. Always cry especially after being bitten by a kid name Fahmi (he is a year younger than I am). Somehow I manage to be brave enough to fight him off after he bitted my brother(Hilmi). Hilmi was like "Abang, dia gigit tangan Emi..huuuuu," and I just throw a punch and kick Fahmi simultaneously. Next was Tabika Perpaduan by Rukun Tetangga Taman Seri Nibong. This is where I started my early chilhood education. I was one of the kid who already can read at that time. Most of them were still thought that A was an abbreviation of AYAM while I already can read out their names in the registry. Fahmi was also there. His mother was my kindergarten teacher. A very kind hearted, soft spoken teacher. There was another teacher, also kind and helpful but already met her Creator. Fahmi was still bitting people at that time but spared me..probably scared of me after what I've done to him. One thing I love about this kindergarten was plastecine or clay. There was lots of it and we the kids love it very much. I remember one stormy afternoon, I peeked out from the windom and saw a tree struck by lightning. The flash and thunder was so bright and loud, I was shocked and fell on back. Lucky there was this girl who helped me up.

During December 1989, I started my official formal education in an old school, in fact the oldest in Seberang Perai. Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Methodist Nibong Tebal was founded in 1898. The buildings were old. Old enough to give a child the education as it done to his or her grandfather. Me for example, the school was also the place where my grandmother's sibling learned. At my time, I stayed in the same class from standard 1 till 6. Not just me, we all did. There were 3 classes for each batch and we all will stay in that class till end. I was in Kelas 1 Merah, 2 Merah, 3 Merah, 4 Merah, 5 Merah, 6 Merah or Aman (there were changes to the classes name during my final year there). I was the class rep for one month during standard 1 and was appointed as the school prefect starting from standard 4. Cikgu Md Dali called us on day to meet him at bilik KH. 5 pupils from each classes. At first I thought it was a disciplinary action since Cikgu Md Dali was the Discipline Teacher. We all were shivering(afraid), but I suggested to them that he may want to appoint us to be the school prefect. They all took my words and began to relax a bit. When Cikgu Md Dali arrive, he acted as what I've predicted. When he ask who will be the Head Prefect, all of them(I think) answered simultaneously "HAFIZZZZ," (That memories is still fresh as it was yesterday because they did that again during my secondary education). I don't agree at first but later accepted it. My first task was to empty the classes during recess. Me, Amirul Akhbar Bin Amir, Brandon Lim Eu Chern, Ahmad Nazri Bin Abd Rahim and others(the male prefect) turned our first task into a 'police sentry' game. We caught them and send them to the staff's room almost immediately. My trousers get very dirty after I fallen in a puddle of mud during the chase. I was the Head Prefect for afternoon session (standard 4 was the eldest batch in afternoon session). I was the Head Prefect for Standard 5 and was the Head Prefect during standard 6. But I hold the title less than a month after Vasanthe Jothi A/P Rajapathy accompanied by Ooi Sui Li met me and ask whether I agree to step down and give her the position. I said yes and accepted the proposals-almost immediately. Amirul, Nazri other prefect was angry at me because of it. I couldn't understand why I did that but later in my life I learned that that will be one of my principles of life. By the way, Jothi was the right person for the job as she was very bright, she can play piano, dance traditional Indian dance, never 'ponteng' even for one day as if she never get sick and always take the 1st place trophy for academic achievement. Best student for all subjects taught there with exceptional to Pendidikan Islam(I bet if she was in the class she will get the trophy too). Ooi Sui Li was also one of the brightest student there but always being 2nd after Jothi.

My first crush was during standard 2. Cikgu Md Zain held his class outside the classroom (We were sitting facing a wall with murals of Rukun Negara) when we noticed that there was a girl accompanied by her parents walk passed us. I can remember clearly how the boys react to this 'commercial break'. Pak Ali (Fadzli Bin Hamzah) said "Huiyoo," , Amirul said "Cantiknya,"and others gave their comments on her.

After the class with Cikgu Md Zain we went back into the class for Cikgu Rafeah's. She arrived late that time and with her was that girl. Cikgu Rofeah brought her in and ask her to introduce herself. "Nama saya Faizah Nor Bt ? (Can't remember her full name and the correct spelling),"
Cikgu Rofeah then asked her to take the empty seat beside me. The other boys were so jealous at that time. What unique about her was because of her attitude. I broke a pencil into 2 pieces. Just for a show off (later I regretted because that was the only pencil I have). She then pulled out 2 pencils and """SNAPPED""" the 2 pencils fractures and travelled in to the dust bin and I was like "WAAAAAAA!!!" I fell in love almost immediately. But I don't know what kind of feeling was that. When I realise that I don't have any pencils left, she just laugh and gave one of hers. The boys gave me the title Mat Pit Pondan (one reason is because I cry a lot and the other reason was because they are jealous of me and Faizah..Hahahahaha) We used to chat a lot in the class. She also have a strange sickness. One day, there was a class photography session, She told me that she'll faint if she looked at the camera flash. So I told her to close her eyes and she did. She fainted a week after during the assembly.... hahahaha. Well..there were no fate between she and me + the pupils of SRK Methodist. She moved to Sg Bakap for standard 3 and later flew to UK as her father continue his study (that was what i heard)

---I'll continue the story on my secondary education..not about the teachers but the environments

Birthday Tell Tales....REALLY????

I read horoscope..especially the one published in The Star and Friendster. Ironically..If I read it at the end of the day, the prediction was accurate as it will describe the most joyful or shi*tty experience I've been through for the day. But if I read it in the morning..the prediction will be way off.

I don't believe in such thing..Even though it sometime gives accurate prediction...What is the point of living when you already knew what will come to you.

Istiadat Konvokesyen UiTM ke-68...Konvo Diplomaku

I can't remember why I did not publish this post.. This piece was written by me on 3 June 2008..less than a year before.

Diari Konvoku.

Kancilku menghimpit Kelisa Fiza bagaikan pembuli jalanan..WAHAHAHAHAHA (Gelak Jahat)

Rupanya takdak sidang pun haritu.

29/05/08 lepak2 kat umah..kuar gi giant beli barang untuk Kecik (awek Buza). Buza Belanja aku makan MegaMac.

Aku tgk mak bapak aku suka sgt..I'm happy for them..Semoga aku dapat grad degree ngan KELAS PERTAMA...WAH..tinggi cita2 aku nih..doa2kanlah rakan2 sekalian..

Futsal - kaki sukan Atau kaki bangku Atau kaki sofa

Hmmm..over la pulak intro tuh..

Post nih pasal sukan. Men Tun Syed Syeikh Barakbah. Teringat zaman2 ketika dia fit dulu..tak terkejar aku ngan Hilmi(adindaku) ketika berjoging ngan dia petang2. Men. Methodist Nibong Tebal.

Aku pulak...hmmm..1st of all aku nak kasik warning kat apek dan sudin yang aku citer menda nih bukan untuk korang jer..(so plz stop counting how many times I had told you guyz the same story!!!most of the stories were told during bedtime...kind of bedtime stories..hehehe))

Dari zaman sekolah rendah aku tak berapa nak join sukan2 nih. Masa darjah 2 ada la masuk persembahan aerobik masa hari sukan. Ada lagi gambar2 lama tuh tapi semua kat umah. Aku pernah join pemilihan pemain bola sepak time darjah 5 kot. Pengaruh kartun 'Kickers' sgt menebal waktu tu dan aku berjaya menewaskan penjaga gol yang kira power walaupun dia darjah 4 time tu(Gol nasib jer). Nama budak tu Hamdi. Masa tu aku darjah 3. Semua orang nak jadik Rashid Sibir..ehh..Rashid Sidek laa..

Bila masuk SMKANT..takdak court badminton. Aku bertukar kepada bola tampar setelah permainan itu mengingatkan aku kepada 'Moero Attack', iaitu siri petang2 jepun pasal ada minah tu suka buat somersault sebelum 'spike' bola tu. Pelik jugak kenapa dulu tgk citer tu tak tertarik pun kat pelakon dia..dah besar2 nih nampak lain pulak gambar tuh..Pelik..pelik..

Time ni lah aku merasa keperitan bersukan..Tangan jadik biru, lutut calar-balar, seluar koyak..namun aku tak boleh2 jugak buat somersault sebelum spike bola tuh...hahahaha

(Only last semester i learned that it was the effect that been called Magnus Effect-search for yourself).

Teringin nak main basketball..sekalik tu masa PJ gigi aku bertemu dengan siku Zulazrin Jamaluddin sehingga membuatkan kedua2 gigi rabbit aku retak.

Men Jitra) ..masa tu aku dah F5 dan memegang tali keledar (opsss) tali pinggang Hijau 2. Aku dapat no.3 setelah kalah kat semi-final.

Sir Sham adalah pengajar taekwondo aku..berbadan gempal dan berperut bulat..namun sepakannya pernah menyebabkan anak angkatnya pengsan (budak tu dah black belt tuu)..aku ingat kata2 dia..this is sport..this is not martial art. Dia tak mau budak2 dia gaduh guna taekwondo..lagipun mana ada orang gaduh sempat stretching ngan warming up dulu..aparaaa..

Masa kat UiTM penang..membe2 ajak gi main futsal kat megamall..aku turun beberapa kali sampai laa bila depa start main stail 'Kalah bayar',,aku tak join dah sebab tak setuju...bowling pun aku tak main sangat dah macam kat UTM dulu sebabnya kekurangan wang dan masa.

Alhamdulillah..seramai 22 orang peserta berjaya menghabiskan game 1 jam di Sports Planet S16, Shah Alam bermula jam 10 sehingga 11 pagi tanpa sebarang kejadian tak diingini.

Kesimpulannya..kebanyakkan player pancit (termasuk aku) dan mahukan aktiviti ini diteruskan lagi..yeehaaa...Jom Futsal!!!!

The title suggest the content of this post.

My 1st 'Sifu' of Thermodynamic was Prof. Amer Nordin Darus. An old man that poured out his wise thoughts in each session. At that time, I was in my 1st semester in UTM Skudai.

That old man always relates everything that he is teaching with natural phenomena that we encountered every day but we always simply ignored it. Phrases like God Forbid ("Allah tak bagi/benarkan") always came out from his mouth. I attended 90% of his class, got 39/60 for my carry mark(on-going assessment) and finally got C+ for Thermodynamic 1.

The next 'sifu' of thermodynamic was actually sifus. 2 lecturer for Marine Engineering System 1. This was one of the last subject that got me kicked out. I can't remember their name(selalu tuang kelas daaa) but I did kept an assignment for the subject. The title was "Refrigerating and Air Conditioning System for Submarines". I got 4/10 ...lost 4 marks because it was handed in late. I remember learning about heat produced by fruits, human, animals but I didn't acquire the knowledge to design a system to suck all the heat out from a confined spaces filled with such things. I remember learning about 'suhu selesa' or comfortable zone (both seemed contradict but it were the same thing) but I don't know how to use the psycrometric chart. I was so lazy (tak sedar2 diri lagi padahal masa tu dah Kedudukan Bersyarat dah). The final exam for this paper was a disaster. I forgot to bring my own properties table(or steam table)(I thought that they will provide it, I realize this when the exam begin). I went back to my hostel to get it back and it took my precious a half an hour. I entered the hall and glanced to the invigilators. The next thing was the temperature in that hall was too cold. I sat in the middle of the hall. 3 units of 2-3 HP(horse power) aircond were situated at my left, right and in front of me. It was ironic that the subject also included air conditioning topic. I start to answer the first question and 2o minutes later I walked in to the bathroom. The outside temperature was hot but my hands were still cold after 5 minutes. I walked in and tried to answer the next question..20 minutes later I surrendered ..with just 2 answers in my answer sheets.. I failed.

Later in UiTM Pulau Pinang, I learned Thermodynamics during short course (during semester break). My 'sifu' was Mr. Mohammad Abdul Razak. He was quite fierce but a very good lecturer. My carrymark was 39/40 but that wasn't good enough. At the end I get an A-. Next was Mr. Fairosidi which taught us Heat Transfer, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning. I scored A.

Almost all of my thermo lecturers taught me very well. This semester, I am taking Thermal Engineering which is taught by Assoc. Prof. Rahim Atan. Another interesting lecturer for thermodynamic.

World of thermodynamic involves various field of engineering. I don't know why but i like it so much..may be because it is the 'easiest' discipline among others (Dynamic, fluid, etc2)

What i like to write here was about a man by the name of Thomas Midgley, Jr. (May 18, 1889 – November 2, 1944).

He was the one who invented chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) in 1928 as a replacement for ammonia (NH3), chloromethane (CH3Cl), and sulfur dioxide (SO2), which are toxic but were in common use at the time as refrigerants. The new compound must not only have low boiling temperature but also non-toxic. He also invented tetra-ethyl lead or TEL which previously used as an additive to fuel. TEL was used as an antiknock agent which also increase the octane rating of the fuel. (remember the Leaded & Unleaded Petrol sold in Petrol pump not long ago, TEL was in the Leaded petrol)

Ironicly...both of his invention proven to be harmful to the environment and human. In Eastop & Mc Conkey book..it was stated that one atom of fluorine can destroy thousands molecule of O3(Ozone) in a chain reaction. TEL was later found to be the the caused of brain damage to the children. Lead is known as a toxic metal which can caused fatal.

He died in 1944..3o years before the effect of CFC to the atmosphere is widely known.

How did he died..in 1941, he became bed ridden because of polio. He designed a pulley and strings system to help others to move him from the bed. Again..ironicly, the system that he designed took his own life..he died of strangulation at the age 55.

I wrote this piece to remind myself and my dear readers about each invention or action that we are responsible for today may caused destruction later on. He may have good intention, but sadly he was described as 'the single creature that done the most damage to the environment more than other organism'....

Pity for him..

CFC(R11,R12,R13,etc..etc..etc) is still being used today but it is widely replaced by R134a which less harmful to the atmosphere.
